After receiving his training at a number of renowned restaurants such as Wakuden and Toriimoto, the owner went independent, opening his restaurant in 2012 and receiving a Michelin Star the next year (now currently 2 Michelin Star), garnering praise and fame as “Otagi”. Loved by local alike, the restaurant quickly became highly sought after for reservations and relocated to the Takagamine area of Kyoto in August of 2018 so that the restaurant could be closer to nature and procure local fresh ingredients. Takagamine is nestled in a rural area away from the train station, requiring people to take a taxi even from the closest train station, Kitaoji station. Otagi wishes that its customers cherish the local feeling of Kyoto, and enjoy the taste and scent of rural areas in Kyoto such as Takagamine. All the fresh vegetables are handpicked from local farms in Takagamine and Gentaku are cooked with care and love. His culinary choices offer not only pure Japanese dishes but also include a wide variety of cuisines from other parts of the world, such as Chinese and western cuisine. Even so, it never loses its identity as a Japanese restaurant, creating dishes that requires a lot of skill and originality. The interior of the restaurant is a comfortable space consisting of counter seats and private rooms, where you can relax and slowly dine in elegance.
