Zén is the sister restaurant to Frantzén in Stockholm and holds three stars in Guide Michelin. Zén, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Singapore, opened in 2018 as an offshoot of Frantzén, Sweden's first restaurant to receive three Michelin stars. The restaurant offers an aperitif and amuse-bouche on the first floor, followed by an eight-course, seafood-heavy tasting menu with Japanese influences on the second floor. Petit fours and coffee are served in the lounge area on the top level. The restaurant uses premium ingredients from Europe and Japan, infusing the dishes with unique character. Reservations are mandatory. Upon arrival at Zén, one might be tempted to double-check the location, but upon closer inspection, the restaurant's name is on a small golden plaque above the doorbell. The meal begins in a lounge on the ground floor, with the open kitchen located towards the rear of the building. Food choices are simple, with only one fixed tasting menu available. There are three drink pairings: one alcoholic, one non-alcoholic, and a mix of the two. The alcoholic pairing, consisting mostly of wine, beer, sake, and a Korean fermented rice drink, was a pretty good pairing. The detailed descriptions given by the servers for every glass, including the backstory of its production and a discussion of what aspects of the drink matched to the flavors in the dish, were rare and most welcome.
